Established in 1987, the project is currently under construction. It will provide 50 flats and 16,000 ft2of workspace arranged around a landscaped courtyard. The building combines radical architecture with secure urban form. Environmental targets include reduction of CO2 emissions by 50 per cent, heating bills of $1.58 per week, reduction of 50 per cent in unrecycled waste and high insulation levels. Very high levels of community involvement are an intrinsic part of this cooperative project. $6,012,740 has been assembled by the cooperative and the project will be entirely self-financing through rents which are affordable to local people and their businesses.
