The CoHabitat Network has developed a series of tools responding to the needs highlighted by both established and emerging groups. These have been designed collaboratively with all partners of the network.
Regional hub meetings and peer-to-peer learning
The hubs offer an opportunity for community-led housing groups to meet, learn, share experiences, and understand what the priorities are for their region.
They include workshops, presentations, discussions, training, and more. They also include site visits to projects.
Each hub is co-ordinated with local partners, and have so far taken place in Latin America, North America and Europe. The African and Asian hubs will begin in 2019.
Community-Led Housing Awards
These regional awards aim to share achievements of inspiring community-led housing projects and to serve as a learning tool. Each regional partner organises their own awards, which are then presented at the hub meetings. The winners deliver a workshop to share their experiences.
The selection panel includes local partners, urbaMonde and World Habitat. The local partners decide the criteria and format of the awards.
As part of World Habitat’s collaboration with the CoHabitat Network, the winners of the Community-Led Housing Awards are encouraged to apply for the World Habitat Awards, and will be entered into the longlisting stage of our selection process.
CoHabitat Solidarity Fund
The Solidarity Fund offers peer-to-peer finance between community-led housing groups, to respond to the need for affordable loans for housing construction. It is also supplemented by Swiss international development funds.
The Solidarity Fund is currently in its pilot phase, with Swiss cooperatives loaning to Senegalese Federation of Inhabitants and CENCOVICOD In Nicaragua.
