Building Sustainably: How to plan and construct new housing for the 21st century

A report, funded in part by BSHF, outlining clear policy recommendations to ensure that best practice in sustainable housing design is incorporated into future housing construction in the UK.

This research aims to show through changes to the building regulations and the planning system how we can ensure that the significant amount of new housing that needs to be built in the UK in the coming years adopts best practice in sustainable design and construction and, in so doing, turns it into common practice.

This report makes clear recommendations to policy and decision makers, endorsed by a wide range of organisations, relating to how existing regulations and building policies should be reformed to ensure they deliver against the government’s own sustainable development targets. It also shows how to bring delivery of best practice in the design of sustainable homes and communities into the mainstream.
