World Habitat statement on Hull Women’s Safe Homes

We at World Habitat are aware of the recent concerns raised about Hull Women’s Safe Houses, which received a silver award from us in 2021. We take these concerns very seriously.

Our awards celebrate projects that provide adequate housing to those in need. The information we received during the award process and our subsequent evaluation which included an on-site visit indicated that this project met our criteria at that time.

We understand that there are now accusations that the housing may be substandard and potentially put vulnerable women at risk. World Habitat’s empathies lie with any tenants affected by landlord negligence.

While these are currently accusations, we are looking into the matter carefully. We are committed to transparency and to ensuring that all World Habitat Award winners demonstrate leading practice and provide safe, secure and adequate housing.
