CD-ROM of the 2005 International Study Visits to the 2004 Winners of the World Habitat Awards: the Eldonian Village, United Kingdom and FUNDASAL’s La Paz Post-Earthquake Housing Reconstruction Programme, El Salvador
The purpose of these study visits was to provide an in-depth understanding of the practical techniques, training methods and project management approaches used in the award winning programmes as well as providing the opportunity for the exchange of experiences. A CD- ROM has been produced by the BSHF, in English and in Spanish, and contains details of both programmes with reflections from the people who participated in the study visits.
The Eldonian Village was initiated in 1978 when residents of the Vauxhall area of Liverpool came together to fight against local authority plans to demolish their homes and disperse their community. Through a community-generated regeneration process, housing and community facilities have been provided for 1,200 people in the local area.
FUNDASAL’s La Paz Post-Earthquake Housing Reconstruction Programme works to restore and improve the housing conditions of those affected by the 2001 earthquakes in El Salvador through the strengthening of citizen participation. To date, over 6,500 earthquake-resistant homes have been built, covering 18 of the 22 districts in the La Paz province. The CD-ROM also includes a 14 minute video about FUNDASAL.
