Inspirational projects and programmes that provide outstanding, innovative and sustainable housing solutions are encouraged to enter the 2022 World Habitat Awards now.
For over 35 years, the World Habitat Awards – run in partnership with UN-Habitat – have celebrated and showcased a wide variety of pioneering approaches to housing challenges, providing international recognition to exceptional projects and programmes. In total, more than 360 have been recognised, each one transforming the lives of individuals, families and communities through housing.
Organisations and individuals are also encouraged to nominate other projects – either by contacting us at wha@world-habitat.org or by passing the information on to those that might be interested.
Onno Ruhl, Executive Director of the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH), winners of a 2020 Gold World Habitat Award, said:
“Winning the World Habitat Gold Award has been a tremendous honour and opportunity for AKAH. The Award, and our partnership with World Habitat, not only led to greater recognition of our work but more importantly amplified our common message around the criticality of protecting and bettering habitats threatened by climate change.
“Through the partnership with World Habitat, we were able share our message on the global stage at COP26, shedding light on the challenges faced by mountain communities in an often-overlooked frontline of climate change. We were able to bring their voices into the global conversation, showcase successful examples of locally led climate change adaptation and start a dialogue around how international partners can support and scale these solutions.
“We are grateful to the World Habitat team for their support in strengthening and spreading our message that mountains matter to us all and recognizing the contributions of mountain communities to the resilience agenda.”
David Ireland, Chief Executive of World Habitat, said:
“World Habitat’s mission is to find and celebrate the best housing practice from around the world and transfer those ideas and practices to places where they are needed most – to benefit people who really need them.
“Today’s world has many challenges and threats to people – whether it’s the effects of the climate emergency; wildfires and hurricanes; the financialisaton of housing pricing communities out of their homes; or COVID-19. Keeping people safe and keeping communities together requires new ideas, different approaches and outstanding people and organisations. The World Habitat Awards can help bring those ideas and practices to wider recognition so they can help more people.
“Please take the time to enter the 2022 World Habitat Awards – it is absolutely vital that we discover, celebrate and showcase the world’s very best housing solutions.”
Two winners of the 2022 World Habitat Awards will receive a Gold Award and £10,000. There will also be Silver and Bronze Awards for other outstanding projects and programmes. In addition, Gold Award Winners will have the opportunity to share their approach to housing solutions through World Habitat’s exChange programme.
The Awards remain open for entry until 23:59 GMT on Monday 14 March 2022.
