McLean Lodge is a 34-bed hostel for frail elderly poor persons. It consists of three purpose-built houses and five renovated houses located in the inner-city where the residents had been living. All eight units are linked via an electronic staff call system. The style and layout of the buildings encourage the independence of the residents. All residents have private facilities and each house has its own kitchen, lounge and laundry. Construction was carried out on a highly energy efficient basis. The A$1,600,000 costs of the project were met by the government.
