A founder member of the Global Eco-village Network, Lebensgarten is an international community of 115 members living in 58 houses, restored by the residents from old brick-built settlements for an armaments factory in northern Germany. The project commenced in 1985 and is now completed. Energy needs are met through a range of renewable devices and car sharing is one of several environmentally responsible living practices. The community runs seminars on a range of topics and seeks to establish a tolerant community lifestyle with emphasis upon spiritual awareness and greater integration with nature.
