Completed in 1994, this ecological housing project demonstrates not only sound ecological principles but also the importance of participation and collective self-determination. The project consists of 21 terraced houses, one block of 17 flats, one garage block with offices above and a social centre. The total cost of development was $9,840,000. Prospective owners were found and brought together and were involved in the design and construction of the project. Its aims are providing a varied social and physical environment, using healthy and ecologically sound building materials, use of solar energy, water consumption reduction and the use of a low-emission heating system. Management is by the owners, through the management cooperative that they have established.
