The UN’s Special Rapporteur on housing is currently focusing on the connections between homelessness and housing rights. In preparing their forthcoming report to the Human Rights Council, the Special Rapporteur has requested responses to a range of questions.
This document presents BSHF’s response. Here we draw on 30 years of learning from the World Habitat Awards, and initiatives to tackle street homelessness in Europe, to promote a number of rights-based solutions. We highlight the importance of broad-based movements in tackling homelessness, which are led by NGOs and civil society and supported by governments.
