In March 2011, BSHF submitted evidence to an inquiry by the Communities and Local Government Select Committee on Regeneration. This inquiry focused on policies outlined by the government in ‘Regeneration to enable growth: What Government is doing in support of community-led regeneration’.

Two pieces of evidence formed the basis of the submission by BSHF.

  • Research conducted in conjunction with Durham University on the Housing Market Pathfinder programme with particular reference to the ‘Bridging NewcastleGateshead’ programme;
  • Research and consultation conducted in conjunction with the Third Sector Research Centre on self-help housing, where communities are bringing empty properties back into use.
