World Habitat are sad to hear of the passing of Professor Yves Cabannes. Yves was an advisor to World Habitat and had been a member of the World Habitat Advisory Group for the last twenty years. His practical and academic knowledge of housing particularly in the fields of participatory planning and budgeting, affordable housing, and community-led housing was unsurpassed. It was derived from a deep understanding of how housing affected people’s lives and from a profound conviction for the causes he believed in.

He was always generous with his knowledge and contacts, helping people understand the value of different housing approaches and the effects they have on communities. That generosity added huge value and understanding to the World Habitat Awards, enabling us to identify and award groundbreaking housing ideas. The World Habitat Awards will not be the same without him. We are thankful for his extensive contribution to World Habitat over many years. We send our condolences to his family.
