Congratulations to our Programme Manager, Mariangela Veronesi, for successfully being selected as a recipient of The Academy of Urbanism’s Small Grants Scheme for 2016/17.

Her submission entitled ‘The Inclusive City: an LGBTQ+ perspective’ specifically addresses the lack of inclusion of gender and sexual minorities in considering how we plan and envision our cities; and the lack of active voices from these communities in urban placemaking.  The project will involve a workshop exploring the themes of housing, public spaces and infrastructure, and services and facilities from the point of view of diverse LGBTQ organisations and individuals. The results will then be presented and discussed through a public session.

Mariangela said about the project, ‘Hearing different voices can help raise questions of how inclusive planning and design currently is, and will hopefully make us reflect not on current shortcomings and on the need for more LGBTQ+ view, but for increased participation from the many diverse communities that make up the places we live in.’

Further details on Mariangela’s project and the other successful submissions can be found on The Academy of Urbanism website.  To follow its progress and engage with the project follow @MariVeroUK and #MyQueerCity on Twitter.
