Back in 1987, the World Habitat Awards became part of the United Nations International Year of Shelter for the Homeless.
The Awards were designed to run for just three years, but the positive response was overwhelming, so they just kept on going.
Since then, with the backing of the UN-Habitat, we have allocated awards (and nominated runners up) every 12 months to the most innovative and exciting housing projects around the world.
For almost forty years our organisations have had the privilege of working together on the World Habitat Awards, successfully shining a light on innovative housing solutions globally. The dedication displayed by the World Habitat team has made a significant contribution to our shared success.”
