Successfully integrating vulnerable members of Serbia’s Roma community – as well as housing them – has been a key part of the Social Housing in Supportive Environments (SHSE) project.
By October 2016, SHSE had built over 1,200 units housing more than 3,400 people in 43 areas across Serbia. Over 500 members of the Roma community have been successfully housed across 16 areas.
From 2017-2019, 34 housing units will be constructed for other members of the Roma population with funding from the EU. These new homes – to be built in Odzaci municipality – will provide adequate living conditions and create opportunities for social inclusion. SHSE will involve the Roma community in the planning of housing solutions, proposed locations, infrastructure improvements and the maintenance of the housing.
