Elena has worked in the voluntary/not-for-profit sector since 2010 and joined World Habitat in 2016 as Communications Officer. She works alongside all programmes, supporting the homelessness campaign, community-led housing and the World Habitat Awards with their communications outputs, as well as writing and editing content for the website and social media. She supported the rebranding of the organisation in November 2017 and has been involved in developing a more ‘people-focused’ approach to our work – including telling resident stories through interviews, guest blogs and films.
Elena previously worked at a local Community Radio Station and Coffee Lounge, providing opportunities for adults with learning difficulties, mental health issues and disabilities, and young people. This involved a variety of roles, including fundraising, finance and administration, recruiting and managing volunteers, website and social media promotion, and events. She continues to volunteer there. Elena has also worked in community fundraising for a local charity who distribute medical aid to Africa and volunteered with homelessness organisation Framework.
Elena graduated in Tourism Management at Sheffield Hallam University in 2009, where she focused on sustainable development and global issues.
Elena is currently on sabbatical.
